False-twist textured filament for high-speed glove and sock knitting
Product & Specification Guide · 2026
The process
Draw textured yarn starts as POY pre-oriented filament and is crimped by heat rather than by twist.
POY feedstock
Pre-oriented polyester filament
Heating
Filament brought to forming temperature
False twisting
High twist inserted under tension
Heat setting
Crimp locked into each filament
Reverse de-twisting
Twist removed, crimp stays
The finished yarn carries no real residual twist — the filaments are permanently crimped and bulked, which is where the name false twist comes from. Known in the trade as low-elastic yarn or textured yarn.
Properties
Built-in elasticity
Stretches and recovers without added spandex, which is what knitting machines need.
Bulked and matte
Not the smooth, bright face of FDY — the bulk gives stronger cover in the knitted fabric.
Stable on the machine
Intermingled DTY runs high-speed sock and glove machines with a lower break rate.
Graded stretch
Low (SD), medium and high (HE). Dual-heater setting lowers stretch and steadies dimensions.
Construction
Two DTY singles are twisted together into one yarn. That is what the /2 in every specification means.
Single-ply
One filament yarn
Lower tenacity. On high-speed glove machines it breaks readily, and every break is a stopped machine.
Doubled · /2
Two singles plied together
Higher tensile strength, fewer stray filaments, far fewer breaks — and a more abrasion-resistant glove. The mainstream material for safety gloves.
Hong’an’s main product is DTY doubled yarn, not single-ply.

Grades
Every doubled specification is available at three intermingle levels. Cohesion rises with the level, and so does tolerance for machine speed.
SIM
Light intermingle
Low-speed knitting, and buyers who are not sensitive to the occasional broken end.
Not for 18G or 21G
NIM
Normal intermingle
The glove industry standard. Available in every gauge and every specification we make.
Default quotation
HIM
High intermingle
High-speed glove machines and fine 18G–21G gloves. Strongest cohesion, fewest broken filaments.
For the fastest machines
No grade specified in the enquiry: we quote NIM.
Fast machines or frequent breaks: upgrade to HIM.
Thin electronics gloves at 18G or 21G: NIM or HIM only.
End use
Safety gloves
Knitted, dipped and dotted gloves from 5G to 21G. Hard-wearing, elastic, and it does not bind the hand.
Knitted socks
Crew and mid-calf socks in the fine range. Filament holds its shape through washing.
Stretch activewear
Bulked, matte-faced knit fabric with built-in stretch and good cover.
